Position Summary
Community United Methodist Church in Elm Grove, Wisconsin seeks a skilled and dedicated part-time organist and pianist to join our music ministry team. Our music ministry is a rich community of volunteer musicians focused on worship and growth. Ensembles include a Chancel Choir, Clarion Bells, the Praise Team (a contemporary worship band), and the Festival Choir, a special-occasion chorus that leads worship for select services during Lent and Advent.
The organist reports to the Director of Music.
Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the primary organist and pianist for worship services, rehearsals, and special events.

Sunday worship services include service music such as preludes, postludes, and offertories; hymns; and accompanying choral anthems in a variety of styles. Additional services are included on Christmas Eve and Holy Week.

Accompany instrumental and vocal soloists and small ensembles during the summer.

Assist the Director of Music and the worship committee in selecting appropriate hymns and service music that align with the liturgical calendar, seasonal themes, and worship needs of the congregation.

Coordinate organ and piano maintenance for the church with the Director of Music.

Submit service music to OneLicense, ensuring compliance with streaming licensing requirements.

Option to prepare special solo or chamber recitals for CUMC programs or other special services or events.

Right of first refusal for weddings and funerals.
Qualifications

Superior proficiency in playing the organ and piano in worship settings.

Strong sight reading and open score reading skills.

Strong knowledge of sacred music literature, with an emphasis on traditional church music and hymnody.

Capacity to work independently and collaboratively.

Ability to play in varying styles.

Previous experience as a church musician preferred.
Schedule & Compensation
This salaried position requires a commitment to Wednesday evening rehearsals, at least three Sunday services a month, all holy days, and special events and rehearsals. The salary range is $15-18k and is commensurate with experience.
