This Weeks Focus
1)CUMC Performing Arts Concert 7:30 pm on Saturday, September 25
The Windy Hill Brass, a University of Wisconsin-Waukesha based ensemble under the direction of Dr. Craig W. Hurst, will perform at Community United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 25 at 7:30 pm. The group is configured to perform brass music ranging from as small as a brass trio up through a large brass choir. The concert will include music by Claudio Monteverdi, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Eugene Gigout, Samuel Scheidt, Scott Joplin, Percy Grainger, Hoagy Carmichael and other traditional and popular music. David Beyer, organist at Peace Lutheran Church in New Berlin, will also perform with the brass. Admission to the concert is free. However a free will offering will be graciously accepted.
2)OWLS – On Thursday, September 16, 2010 we’ll meet at 11:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Our speaker is Doug Jacobson, Elm Grove author, who will present a program on his book “Night of Flames.” Inspired by his Polish heritage and the war-time experiences of his Belgian relatives, “Nigh of Flames” is the result of a five-year research effort. Deadline for reservations is Tuesday, September 7, 2010.
3) The Gathering needs juice for breakfast program. All sources providing juice for The Gathering’s breakfast program have “dried up.” 150-200 guests eat breakfast at St. James each morning, 5 days a week. The Gathering would like to continue to provide nutritious juice for them (100% juice) - either apple or cranberry - and is looking for help to provide such. If anyone would like to donate either of these juices in cans or glass bottles (nothing that needs to be refrigerated), please mark it for The Gathering and bring to the church office. It will then be taken down to St. James for you. Thank you.
4) Sunday Greeters Needed The Welcoming Committee is currently looking for people who would like to be greeters for the Sunday services. If interested, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
